Original G.A.R. Decoration Day Service of 1868 at 3822 Ridge Ave. Philadelphia 12 noon. 

All are welcome.

Laurel Hill is the site of the first Memorial Day in Philadelphia in 1868.

Special markers and new gravestones will be dedicated at the previously unmarked gravesites of two U.S. service veterans, one of WWI, Hyler Davidyan, and a second who served during Civil War, LT. Albert B. Lapsely.

  • Hyler Davidyan WWI veteran Medic/Ambulance Driver. Legion Tioga Post 319 member.
  • Lt. Albert B. Lapsely  Co. H, 72nd Pennsylvania Volunteers Philadelphia Brigade.

Speakers, ceremonies, and pageant will highlight the ceremony. Wreath-laying, speeches, music, and honor guards.

Historical groups, veterans, and citizens are urged to participate. Wreaths, military contingents, color guards, music and period civilians are encouraged to participate.

Refreshments served after the ceremony.
