Lincoln Birthday Celebration Parade and Ceremonies

Sponsored by the Union League of Philadelphia
Civil War military units, civilians, and heritage groups are welcome and encouraged to march in the parade through Philadelphia to Independence Hall to honor President Lincoln on his birthday. Participants will gather at the Union League, 140 S. Broad St. by 9:30am (for free parking)
Complimentary parking is available at iParkit Garage on the N.W. corner of 15th & Sansom St. ONLY. There are no reimbursements for those who park elsewhere. Arrive between 9:00am – 9:30am and obtain a parking pass from a guard at the Sansom St. Entrance, opposite the Union League garage. Proceed to Laz garage at 114 S 15th St on corner to park. (No vehicles over 10′ height).
Return to the Union League. Ask Concierge for the assembly room.
Color Guards, Firing Party, music, and wreaths are appreciated. There will be a complimentary lunch for the participants at 12 noon. After the parade ALL are invited to return to the Union League via coach for refreshments and entertainment in the historic League House.

timeline for the day:
- 9:30am – Arrival; gather in the assembly room
- 11:30am – Program on Broad Street
- 12:00pm – Luncheon
- 1:45pm – Parade from the Union League to Independence Hall.
Following the Independence Hall program, there will be two (2) buses to take participants to either:
- Back to the Union League
- The Lincoln Memorial on Kelly Drive for a brief wreath laying ceremony and return

Memorial Day Observed at Laurel Hill Cemetery located at
1868 3822 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia at 12 p.m. All are welcome.
Laurel Hill is the site of the first Memorial Day in Philadelphia in 1868.
Special veterans’ markers will be dedicated at the graves of previously unmarked veterans.
Speakers, ceremonies, and pageants will highlight the ceremony. Wreath-laying, speeches, music, and honor guards. Historical groups, veterans, and citizens are urged to participate. Wreaths, military contingents, color guards, music and period civilians are encouraged to participate.
Refreshments served after the ceremony.

The Society’s annual trip to Citizens Bank Park this season will be on Tuesday evening, August 19, 2025 against the American League’s Seattle Mariners. There are 50 tickets available and the cost is $42.00 for each ticket. We will be in a new area for our Meade Phillies Phans – Section 314. Following the City Hall Ceremony there will be a PA National Guard Medal Ceremony at 12:30 p.m. in the Union League for the Major Catto Medal.
