Wreaths Across America

When

December 17, 2022
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Today marks the important celebration of Wreaths Across America, a nationwide event where wreaths are laid at the tombs and resting places of our departed brothers and sisters who have served throughout the glorious history of the United States. Over 2,000 cemeteries hold the event every December and this year at Laurel Hill Cemetery over 100 volunteers enjoyed glorious weather, camaraderie, and participated in the time honored dedication of the wreaths to these American hero’s.

Dr. Anthony Waskie, of the General Meade Society of Philadelphia, introduced the volunteers to the merits of the event and its history.

The St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia Director, John-david W. Franklin, was joined by the DAR Independence Hall Chapter, as they laid a wreath at the base of the Monument to General Hugh Mercer, the martyr of the Battle of Princeton and member of the Society. Pictured (from left to right) is John-david W. Franklin, Nicole Fellmeth, Linda Oberkofler, Renee Cantwell, Cathy Bonvicin, Connie Henry-Reid, Dawn Hunter.  Special thanks to the Independence Hall Chapter Regent, Gail Cooper.

On behalf of the Wreaths Across America organization and our family of volunteers and supporters across the country, we want to thank YOU for your support of PA0291P – Friends of Laurel Hill and the Mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those that serve and their families, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Dear Anthony Waskie,

On behalf of the Wreaths Across America organization and our family of volunteers and supporters across the country, we want to thank YOU for your support of PA0291P – Friends of Laurel Hill and the Mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those that serve and their families, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom.

During this year’s National Wreaths Across America observance, dedicated volunteers placed more than 2.7 million veterans’ wreaths at 3,702 participating locations across the country.

As I think of those numbers, each of those headstones, and each of those volunteers saying each servicemember’s name out loud and sharing a small gesture of gratitude for the freedoms Americans enjoy, I am immensely humbled. I am also truly overwhelmed with pride for the people of this great nation where so many individuals and communities can come together in unity and support for those who have protected our freedom. I will say it again: THANK YOU. Thank you for your time and your efforts, your wreath sponsorships, and your help in sharing the mission.

Thank you most of all for taking the time during this busy season to join us in letting veterans and military families know that their service and sacrifice is both seen and appreciated and that they are not alone in their loss.

Remember. Honor. Teach.

With gratitude,

Karen Worcester
