The Spring of 2016 cleanup of the garden at the Widow Leister’s house, the site of General Meade’s headquarters during much of the battle, was blessed by favorable weather and the customary “can do!” attitude of the Society’s volunteers. Two additional members of the community from Mechanicsburg, a young man and his grandmother, joined in the complement to weed and place new plants. (We want to thank them for their help!
After the weeding and planting we gathered back at the Farnsworth House for lunch and conviviality. It was an excellent outing for the those who wish to assist the The Gettysburg National Battlefield Monument and the National Park Service in its 100th year.
